Review by tesg : Decent Product
I purchased this after trying the Haier HLT71 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV, as the Haier didn't get any VHF reception in my office (which apparently was due to interference...the Haier gets all local channels from my home, which is actually eight miles further from the local TV towers than my office is. Thus the Haier has taken up residence in my home office.) The Philips proved to have better reception on both the VHF and UHF dials, at least partly thanks to its antenna being moveable (a feature I really like). The picture is nicer too, and the unit is overall more attractive. You can also manually scan channels, so if you don't get one in Autoscan, you can look for that missing channel later. The negatives to this unit primarily are the lack of power and volume control via the remote, both which the Haier has. The Phillips power slide is on the side of the unit and takes a little effort to turn on. The volume control is just above it and usually gets inadvertently adjusted when I turn the unit on. I also find I'm smudging the bezel with fingerprints because of this. The FM radio is controlled via an on-screen display. Once you've set your station and stop messing with it, the screen shuts off. You can bring it back by clicking the "Display" button. The FM radio does not display RDS data, which kind of surprised me. The FM radio volume also seems to be lower than the TV, so I find myself making adjustments when switching between the two. Radio sound quality isn't all that great for music, particularly classical, through the speakers. Headphones are a little better. Television shows sound much clearer either way, being digitally transmitted. Still, overall, I like the unit. A few minor annoyances, but it suits my needs.
Review by Watts "A retired scientist" : Cute TV
This little TV set performs as advertised. The quality of the picture is particularly impressive. But why, oh why did they not provide a power on/off function on the remote? The set was bought for a person with limited mobility. It is not particularly easy for her to move to the set to turn it on.
Review by So Low Rider "Jeans" : For the Size and Price, it does the job well!
It does as advertised even though people make complaints about this product, they obviously didn't do the research first. This 9" DTV/FM unit is not supposed to act and be like your BIG WIDE SCREEN TELEVISION...so let's get that out of the way. But what this unit does do is replace a Radio Shack 5" AM/FM/VHF/UHF Black and White TV. I wanted it in the kitchen mostly for FM Stereo which this unit gives but also any local Air Channels. If you buy this to connect to a DISH, DirecTV, Charter Box, etc...then I can only ask one question: Why would you?...buy a bigger TV that lets you do this. Anyhow, some also complained the remote doesn't control volume. To this I say, connect a pair of amplified speakers with an On/Off Volume control. Sounds better anyway. Secondly, the antennae really works well within 50 miles of a major city. If you live in the country, don't expect this to do what your other tv's can't do. Enough said about that too. Another complaint: No DC power cord for vehicle use. My answer to that: Go buy one as you did for that $200 I=Phone and didn't complain. Besides, why would you use this in a car? DTV is finicky when the car moves and you do have FM on the dashboard, right? My only somewhat gripe is the FM antennae connection. It's a small pin like plug that easily bends if you get rough with it. I just wonder why they have two connections: One coaxial for TV and the pin plug for FM when they could have wired it inside the unit thus only the coaxial would be necessary. Other than that, I pick up over 40 channels in the Ft Worth Area and about 35 FM stations. And the picture is good for being an LCD screen. Easy to use and setup...another complaint by other users. Just need to realize that the new DTV scenario is in it's beginnings and time will make all DTV's standard in ease of use like the days of old analog tv. Enjoy! PS: Cost was $92 shipped FREE. Some local Walmarts also sell this but it's a hit and miss plus it ranges in price from $88 to as high as $200 so Amazon and Electronics Direct can beat them all.
Review by Jennifer Lee : great picture, well worth it
This portable TV work very well for me, I'm very happy with this purchase. The picture is very crisp and it was very easy to set up as well. I only have good things to say about this one. The other day I was searching amazon and I found the same model but it also comes with headphones, which I think is pretty cool, Philips PT902/37 9" Portable Digital HDTV with FM Tuner + Sony MDR-XD100 Stereo Headphones. I'm so satisfied with my last purchase, I'll be making another one this weekend, highly recommended!
Review by TIMOTHY L. DOZIER : "GREAT TV"
Cable TV to expensive, this could be the set for you, i work 3rd shift so i don't get to watch to much TV,..anyway i ordered this after seeing what a good picture it had at thanksgiving dinner over my brother's..for $89.00 it's a great deal,i keep mine plugged up all the time, so the antenna is in a stationary position all of the time,.. i have not tested the battery life,i have not had a reason to take it any where yet so i can't comment on the battery life. The only time i had trouble with receiving channels was when the weather was bad outside! The FM tuner is pretty good also, the overall sound quality is good,...I'm very satisfied with this little TV
Review by Susanne J. Aude : portable digital TV
Several of us at work purchased this for our boss. He loves it! He has it mounted on the wall in the bathroom so that he can catch up on all the news as he gets ready each morning. He said the picture quality and reception are excellent.
Review by Jose A. Zapata : Great product
Great picture quality. It takes a bit of time to figure out how to program the channels but besides that, the TV is worth its cost. The TV does not require a converter box to tune the local air channels. It is a great small portable TV for the kitchen use or for taking with you to places. The FM radio feature and cable TV capabilities are a plus as well.
Review by BlackStriker : Philips PT902/37 9" Portable TV and tuner - Great value for the money
Great TV. Picture qality is very good. Sound is clear and loud enough. Easy to use controls. Radio is working it's job too.
Review by Traveler : It wasn't easy
Setting it up took a long time. Setup did not come on automatically the first time I turned it on. Just press options, then make sure it is set to AIR if you are not hooking it up to cable....otherwise it won't receive any channels. Then select channel installation and do an automatic scan. If you don't get enough channels you can try rabbit ears or a better antenna. I used rabbit ears, but the plug on the TV is so restricted that it's very difficult to screw on most antenna connections. Terrible design there. I had to modify a push-on antenna connection with a Dremel tool so it would fit. I couldn't get some of the local channels on the included antenna or rabbit ears (rural area). I finally put the rabbit ears about six feet above floor height in a window and got good reception of local channels with an excellent picture. The remote is poor, with no volume control or on/off button. It does have mute. Sound is what you would expect from a small TV, but acceptable. After all that I am very happy with the TV.
Review by ChicagoKris : Better Than I Expected
I bought this portable TV so I could watch football in the office when I come into work on weekends. I work in a high-walled interior cube in a high-rise building in the Chicago Loop, so I was half expecting to get poor reception. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I get clear reception of ALL local channels using only the antenna provided with the product. Setup was easy, and the picture is good. I wish I could adjust the volume on the remote instead of the TV, but I consider that a pretty minor flaw. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. And I can't resist saying - Go Pack Go!
Review by G. Birkner "Music Fan" : Great buy and even better product
I am very satisfied with this TV. At first I was sceptical about buying a refurbished TV over the internet, but I took a chance and so far so good. I am enjoying using it in different locations , at home at work in the car, it has great reception and the HD picture is perfect. I hope to be able to enjoy this product for a long time coming.
