Review by The Original Master : Best 40" LED-LCD For the Price!!!
One of the best 40" LED-LCD's for the price. At only $479, you simply cannot beat this set. I searched for months to find the perfect TV for my media room and after going through a few sets I settled on this one while it was on sale. Sure it's not a Smart TV...but who needs it when you have either an XBOX or a PS3. The set is incredibly thin and unlike other reviewers opinions...I have found that the sound produced from the set is perfectly adequate. There are a few quirks including image syncing from the PC VGA connection and a Dolby decoding issue between my TiVo and the set...but otherwise the TV has been absolutely faultless. I used to be a strict Samsung guy when it came to TV's, but this Toshiba has truly converted me. Did I mention that the picture quality is absolutely fantastic? Unlike other sets that are intentionally set hot...this LED Panel is one of the most natural looking and vivid looking one's that I have seen. The TV stand is solid and prevents the TV from rocking at all and you would never be able to tell the difference from this 60Hz panel from it's 120-240Hz brethren. I have not once detected a hint of motion blur. Buy this TV...you will not be disappointed.
Review by mT3 : Simple, Clean and Great!!!!
Ok, I bought this mainly for my ps3 and desktop. I do not have cable TV at home. This TV provides everything I need. No WIFI, Netflix, 3D and etc.. I just need a 40 inch LED monitor and this Toshiba 40 inch LED-LCD does just that! The picture quality is very beautiful, and NO, I could not tell the difference between the $$$$amsung or the $$$$$ony equivalent models, I guess you can only see the difference when you're viewing it a 6 inches away... BUT who does that???? Bottom line is, if you're looking for a inexpensive but not cheap built quality (aka unknown brands), simple and clean interface (because of no SMART TV crap, who needs those? You can do everything and then MORE with a modern laptop hooked up.) This is your choice! Notes: Do not worry about the TV speakers... You should get at least a sound bar if you're crying for space... But the home theater system is a must if you care about sound.
Review by Brett Daniels : Great TV for the price
At $469, I thought this was a great deal for this TV. The Coby set was about the same price but had absolutely awful reviews, so I went with a more well-known manufacturer. I was not disappointed. It has a super-slim profile and looks great with my gaming system and my PC hooked up. It even has a coax input (I don't have cable, so this was a plus). The USB input took a little to get going (I had to reformat the USB I was using for it to be recognized). I was a little nervous about the sound, but it sounds decent to me, although I'm no audiophile. It also has the smaller VESA mounting on the back, so can be hung using most wall mounts that only need 1 stud (useful in my place).Overall, I would really recommend this TV if you can get it around the price I did. I think it's got a really nice picture and has 3 HDMI inputs, a composite input, a PC (VGA) input and the coaxial input. As a plus the USB will display a slideshow or play music. I do not regret buying this TV.
Review by heybuddy1901 : Amazing TV!!
I dont understand all the negative reviews on this awesome TV. I've had it for almost 2 weeks now and use it every day, i LOVE this TV. For the comments on the base screws, use the right size screw driver and its not a problem, i can see that the heads are a little small and can strip but use the right tool and its not a problem. Yes the sound is not great for playing video games or watching movies, but PERFECT for a bedroom set. I have no problem watching the TV on sound level 1 or 2 while in bed. This TV has plenty of inputs as well for all my needs, its currently hooked up to my cable box, PS3, and home theatre system with no issues. I only posted this review to respond to all the negative criticism that I read about this set before I took the chance and bought it.
Review by Nicholas Wilson : Good picture, poor sound from speakers, no headphone jack
The picture is beautiful for TV or computer VGA or digital connection. It also has an adequate, but plain vanilla media player that can give you a slide show of photos or play MP3 files from a USB plug in. However the slide show does not include any transitions such as fade, nor any pan and scan effect. When you use the remote to pause or back up the slide show, the picture shrinks to show an interface panel at the bottom, and only returns to full screen after a 5-sec delay, so that's another annoyance. The media player can't play any digital video files. It can't zoom in or blow up a photo. Like I said, it's plain vanilla.Other reviewers said the speakers suck, but I didn't realize that it has no headphone jack, which is a major inconvenience for me, since I like to use wireless headphones a lot. It also has only one RCA audio out pair, and they are not volume controlled, another major pain. That means you can't use an inexpensive, simple audio amp and speakers because you have no remote control of the volume or muting. Instead you have to use an amp or home theater audio system that includes its own remote control, and you have to use that instead of the TV's remote to control the volume and muting. Really, how much cost did Toshiba save by not including a headphone jack? And why couldn't they at least optionally make the audio out jacks volume controlled by the remote? My inexpensive (under $60) 2-year old Memorex DVD progressive scan player with HDMI out and upscaling to 1080p makes standard DVD's look great on the Toshiba HDTV screen. But apparently it's not possible to control this DVD player through the HDMI connection using the TV remote. So now I'm up to a minimum of three remotes to watch a DVD and have decent sound. I have a Dishnetwork DVR receiver, so there's another remote. Some brands and models of DVD players and sound systems CAN be controlled by the TV remote through the HDMI connection, but not any of mine.I tried connecting the TV to the HDMI output from my Canon EOS 7D Pro DSLR camera, and it makes a beautiful display. With a long enough HDMI adapter cable I can hold the camera in my lap to work the controls, including ability to zoom in. Again it would be nice if the TV remote could control the camera functions through the HDMI cable, but apparently it can't. The camera is brand new, and I'm not sure if it allows control through the HDMI, but some of Canon's consumer cameras definitely do.I'm very happy with the picture quality, but I probably would have bought something else if I had known there was no earphone jack or controlled audio out on this model. That's why I deducted one star from my rating.Even though this is a full 40" screen it is light and thin enough for me to easily move from one room to another without help, or even to put it in the back seat of my car for transport. That's important because I want to be able to use this to display my photos and photo DVDs in a gallery setting or for small group slideshows. For that purpose I would connect it to my laptop as a computer display rather than use the limited built-in USB player.
Review by J. Ellsworth : Toshiba 40" TV
Amazon service is excellent and responses immediate. First TV shipped had a cracked screen and it was very easy to return it. I chose to replace it as I felt the deal was very good. It seems the TV has a few little glitches in it and part may be my ignorance on all it's features. The first 2 nights it turned itself on after I went to bed and not the same time each night. Did not see any option for it to do that. Sometimes it will just start scrolling through my channels while I'm watching a program. Seems the only way I could stop it was to turn it off several minutes, plus shut down the power strip. Picture is excellent and enjoy the size in my living room.
Review by glenn and claudia : Very small issues.
We had an old entertainment center that we wanted this to fit in. It was one of the few that was 40" and would still fit into the space. We have about .25 inches to spare on each end. It arrived quickly and we have been enjoying it very much ever since. One of the other reviews mentioned having issues with the screws for the stand. I understand the problem. Four of the base screws go in very tightly and are a bit soft and therefore it could be easy to strip the head out. If you use a #2 Phillips screwdriver, you should have no problems. If you use a smaller screw driver, you will likely not get them in without problems. The only other issue with the TV is the infrared remote. It seems to have a somewhat week signal. You have to have it pointed directly at the bottom right of the screen for it to react. We have an overstuffed chair that catches that corner from some parts of the room and sometimes you have to move to get the TV to react. Not a big deal but I thought I would mention it.We are using it to get over the air signals and not satellite or cable. It seems to need a stronger signal than the HD adapter that ran to our old tube TV. Because of this, I had to get a better antenna and do some trial and error to get the most stations. In the end, we are getting better signal now and more channels. Added about $60 to the cost and got to spend some quality time in the attic with my son.The complaints about the speakers not being strong enough are not an issue. We have it tied back into the rest of our sound system and don't rely on the built in speakers. The color is great and we were able to tie it into some legacy sound equipment quite easily. Enough jacks for me.My entire family loves it and thinks it is a huge improvement from what we had. Biggest problem is that I am not getting as much other stuff done. I am spending too much time watching TV.
Review by BAS : Toshiba 40" LCD/LED TV
This arrived in great condition and was easy to set up. We were up and running in 10 minutes. The TV is bright and sharp and easy to use. All the instructions came with it and it was complete.
Review by IMHO : Great LED TV! Very pleased.
We've been extremely happy with this Toshiba TV. The picture quality is outstanding. It's bright and clear from almost any direction. The blacks are very black and the picture is bright, even in a pretty bright living room. The instructions were great, too, and it was simple to attach the included base. We really appreciate the simple and sleek styling, too. It's very thin and the border of the TV is very narrow. It gives a much more modern look versus our old tube set. Can't comment on the sound quality as we run the audio through a receiver. We're glad we added Toshiba to the brands we were considering. Hopefully the TV lasts a long time, because it satisfies everything we were looking for.
